About Us
We are unwavering, courageous partners in the pursuit of a just and equitable world.
NEO Philanthropy is a trusted link between funders and the grassroots organizations that power transformation.
NEO Philanthropy is a 501(c)(3) public charity with more than 40 years of experience growing and encouraging strong and sustainable social justice movements. We bridge any existing gaps, and deepen relationships, between funders and community-based groups doing movement-building work. Through collaborative funds, fiscal sponsorship, and strategic partnership programs, we strive to help nonprofit leaders and funders to amplify their impact, together.
What We Do
-
We provide the infrastructure so nonprofits can do their work.
Our aim is to provide best-in-class services to a broad range of nonprofits taking on the most entrenched challenges of our time. Our Fiscal Sponsorship program provides access to a team of highly experienced NEO staff that manage the full slate of critical core functions so projects can focus on the most important aspects of program work. Our dedicated and highly skilled staff also offer expert financial management and accounting guidance, including regular and transparent financial reporting so project leaders can make informed programmatic decisions. By strengthening the infrastructure and coordination among philanthropic institutions, nonprofit organizations, and other public interest groups, we aim to fulfill the promise of a world where people are treated with dignity, fairness and respect.
-
We bring deep experience and expertise to philanthropy.
We have four decades of experience and longstanding relationships across the social justice sector, ranging from newly-formed and legacy foundations to grassroots projects in every state in the country. Over the past five years alone, funders have partnered with NEO to invest nearly $250 million in organizations engaged in cutting edge work seeking to bring about meaningful change. We provide donors opportunities to learn about unique approaches being practiced in the field and make meaningful connections to support knowledge sharing, issue research, and coalition building. NEO’s team brings a deep bench of expertise, intellectual capital, and practical experience to the work.
-
We fund and support movements for change. The movements for social justice continually iterate and operate at a fast pace as organizations respond to ever-changing variables and environments. As a nimble and responsive intermediary, NEO constantly assists institutional funders in responding quickly to emerging needs while upholding diligent grant making processes. NEO goes beyond the traditional “transactional” services to provide tiered levels of support, including rapid response support, leadership development, field building, risk management, and much more. All of these capacity-building services nurture the sustainability and growth of the organizations with which we partner. By providing these wraparound, tailor-made services to our donors and projects, we increase the effectiveness and impact of organizations in the service of building lasting movements.
-
We help funders break out of silos.Funding silos are a stubborn fact of foundation life, but as a result critical issues often fall between the cracks. In our role as an intermediary, NEO has played a role to ensure funders of all types can transcend narrowly focused funding silos. Through NEO, our funders have supported critical, intersectional work that bridges a wide variety of issues, such as criminal justice and immigrant rights; racial justice and school reform; and human trafficking and domestic violence, reproductive rights and human rights. In addition, we take seriously the need to create connections for social justice organizations across sectors necessary for deeper, more lasting change.
Mission, Vision & Values
Our mission, vision and values connect our community and drive our work. As we continue to experiment, adapt, and innovate, these commitments shape our path and lead our way.
