SIF Supports National Voter Registration Day

The State Infrastructure Fund (SIF) celebrates National Voter Registration Day (NVRD) this September 24 because a healthy democracy is dependent on the active participation of its citizens.

The first step toward a robust and fully participatory democracy is to ensure that all eligible Americans—particularly those who have been historically underrepresented at the polls—are engaged, empowered and cast a ballot that counts in every election.

Since its founding in 2010, SIF has raised more than $70 million to advance its mission to increase civic participation and support voting rights among people of color and other historically underrepresented communities. The fund has supported National Voter Registration Day since 2014 and many of its grantees are NVRD Steering Committee members and partners.

With the media already focused on the 2020 elections, it’s easy to ask, “Is 2019 really important?” The short answer is, YES! November 2019 will see federal, state and local elections across the nation—all of which will have immediate effects in your community. This isn’t an “off-year” election, this is a “close-to-home” election.

Americans can register at hundreds of events across the country and online at www.NationalVoterRegistrationDay.org. Supporters can also follow National Voter Registration Day activities through social media on September 24 by searching #NationalVoterRegistrationDay.
